Giving address at the meeting, Vice Minister, Mr. Bui Thanh Son briefed relevant information about the world and region situation, especially new fundamental changes taking place in politics, security, economics, trading activities of the world..., which have just arisen from the impacts of Covid-19 pandemic. Vice Minister stressed that Vietnam has become an important part in the global economic chain and stepping into the period of intensifying its international incorporation, rightly at the point of time when there are new and complicated moves in the region and the world, triggering various problems for many countries in the world, including Vietnam. According to Vice Minister, Bui Thanh Son, for taking advantages brought in by 16 FTAs, particularly ones of new generation as CPTPP and EVFTA, administration of localities, people and businesses have been considered as important players. Therefore, it is very necessary to have comprehensive and proactive research on all the regulations related and set up the course or plan to execute the signed commitments. Vice Minister also confirmed that MOFA will closely accompany localities in the process of executing EVFTA and FTAs, in which Vietnam involved in the recent years. Besides, this year is a special year for Vietnam, performing double responsibilities as President of ASEAN 2020 and AIPA 41; and non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the period of 2020-2021. This is a good opportunity for Vietnam to strengthen its political position, polish its image and intensify the multilateral diplomatic relations, having close connection with the region and the world served for the sustainable development of the country in the coming time.
Mr. Andreas Stoffers, Director of Vietnam Friedrich Naumann Organization is giving address at the meeting (A.T)
Welcoming the meeting, Vice Chairman of Tien Giang province People's Committee stressed that this is a practical and timely initiative of MOFA with objectives to support localities in the Southern area to update information about the situation of the region and the world, identify new problems needed to pay attention in the process of international incorporation, especially the negative impacts of Covid-19 pandemic; based on which to set up the most appropriate strategy of the socio-economic development served for the party congresses of different levels, advancing to the XIII National Party Congress. Mr. Tuan is expected that two agreements with EU will contribute in promoting the economic growth, generating new jobs, enhancing productivity and national competition capacity, improving the people's living standards; at the meantime, raising transparency, governance capability, explanation responsibility and environmental protection among stakeholders, including Vietnam. However, for optimizing opportunities brought in by these two agreements, it is very urgent to fully understand the international commitments involved by Vietnam as well as EU regulations when doing business with them. For many years leadership of the provinces and cities well realized that the international incorporation was approaching every household and business, but some parts of people and businesses as well as government officials and employees have not saved their time for carefully studying the regulations concerned and assessing influences of those international commitments, especially, FTAs of new generation on production, living manner and state governance; and not earned enough knowledge, skills and experiences in the process of international cooperation.
The meeting was also considered as a good chance for localities and cities in Southern area, which possesses many potentials and strengths in exporting agro-products, fisheries to EU market, to clearly understand commitments, challenges and opportunities brought in by EVFTA; based on which localities and businesses can fully take advantages of EVFTA. At the meeting speakers and participants deeply discussed the problems interested by localities as: how to provide positive support to small and medium enterprises; promote investment, trade and tourism in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, still complicatedly taking place in many countries of the world; improve their competition capacity, get access to market and take opportunity of moves of the production chain by EU, US, Japan, Korea economic groups...; to attract investment, notably in agriculture, improve the qualification of human resources, interconnection among industries and regions... The participants highly appreciate MOFA with their activeness in coordinating, providing support and effectively accompanying localities and business community in the process of international incorporation and joining the global production chain.
In the afternoon of the same day, participants joined the second meeting session to hear introduction by MOFA on the main content of Decision No 06/2020/TTg of Prime Minister, promulgated on February 21st, 2020 with the objective to improve the organization and state management of the international meetings and workshops in Vietnam./.
