The Association was established according to the Decision No. 3165/QD-UBND dated October 12th 2011 of Tien Giang People's Committee. It is a voluntary, social organization and a member of the Central Vietnam - Korea Friendship Association and the provincial Union of Friendship Organizations. It aims for forming and developing the solidarity, peace and friendship between Tien Giang citizens and Koreans in particular and Vietnam - Korea relationship in general; boosting people-to-people exchange, cultural exchange, tourism promotion, etc. contributing to the socio-economic development of the 2 countries.
During the previous tenure, the Association made a lot of contributions to strengthening and developing the friendship and cooperation for development between Tien Giang residents and Korean companies, people and agencies. It regularly sends letters to or visits the Korean Consulate General to offer them greetings on the occasion of their new year or National Day; and visits foreign non-governmental organizations in Ho Chi Minh city, together with the Union of Friendship Organizations, to offer greetings on Vietnam's Lunar New Year. At the same time, it exchanges and timely provides information on the friendship and economic cooperation between Vietnam and Korea with related partners. Especially, in order to strengthen the friendship between people of the 2 countries generally and Tien Giang and Incheon city particularly, the Association in cooperation with the provincial government agencies met with Incheon Metropolitan Council delegation to exchange information of Vietnam - Korea friendship activities and events and inform them of the projects supported by Korea in Tien Giang.
Besides, acting as a bridge to foster the people-to-people exchange between Vietnam and Korea, the Association has participated in meetings with Korean volunteers and agencies visiting the province. It collaborated with other organizations to hold musical activities for the provincial people with disabilities and Korea Blind Union; met with a delegation of the Association of Advisers for the Mayor of Daegu City and a delegation from Uljin county - Gyeongsangbuk-do province, who came to discuss the signing of an agreement in friendship and cooperation with Go Cong Dong district.
In addition, the Association in partnership with Korean individuals and non-governmental organizations has carried out humanitarian aid programs worth nearly 2 billion dongs. Some of these outstanding activities are: Hansin group of volunteer medical professionals (Korea) providing free medical check-up and medicine and giving gifts to poor patients and children at the Cultural Center of Thoi Son Commune, and making free false teeth for patients at Tien Giang Central General Hospital; Posco volunteer group (Korea) building 11 houses at Xuan Dong commune, Cho Gao district; Asia Cultural Exchange Foundation (ACEF) supported the construction of 15 houses for people with low income in Tan Phu Dong district; Global Care Scholarship Project (Korea) offered 5,000 scholarships (300,000 dongs/each) for under-13 children. Their support, though not big, has contributed to helping people with difficult life and to the provincial socio-economic development.
Although facing many challenges in its journey, what the Association achieved definitely wasn't small. This was because of the leadership of the provincial Party Committee and People's Committee as well as high sense of responsibility of its members and the contribution of Korean individuals and organizations.
The 2012-2020 tenure came to an end, and the 2020 - 2025 term promises many positive changes and more contribution to the friendship between Korea and Vietnam in general and Tien Giang in particular. At the congress, a new executive committee consisting of 7 members was selected. Mr. Huynh Van Tinh was re-elected as the Association Chairman. The congress also adopted the resolution for the 2020 - 2025 period which includes key tasks, mainly focusing on enhancing Vietnam -Korea friendship; the provision of information on history, culture, people and achievements of Vietnam and Korea; friendship activities, cooperation, investment for economic development, cultural exchange, humanitarian activities, etc. The congress was a success; and the Association will continue to proactively contribute to the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Korea generally and Tien Giang and Korean partners particularly in the upcoming time./.
